• As a previous regular for meals I have slowly watched it decline and stopped going altogether last March as I had just tried to tuck into my part frozen lamb shank. I heard recently that it had changed hands in the last 4 weeks (Jan 2014)so my wife and I thought we would give it another go. What a superb decision that turned out to be. This is the first review I have ever left in my life but felt compelled to do so as the food was really that good and very much worthy. The new landlord/chef - Grant Smallridge, cooked us a homemade steak and ale pie, not one piece of gristle just pure succulent steak and absolutely delicious rich ale gravy. I had the gammon steak cooked to perfection both of which were served up with proper home made chips that reminded me of when I was young (no oily taste like many serve up nowadays. The only thing pub food about this meal was the price. The food was far more tastier than I have had at many an expensive restaurant. Even the homemade onion rings were delicious as I don't normally eat those. My wife and I usually salt to taste - on this occasion it only went on the chips purely out of traditional habit. We will definitely be back to savour more. I highly recommend you sample these delights. I also noticed that the atmosphere was far more pleasant than previous visits, the place felt far cleaner and the service was top notch. Massive compliments to the CHEF!!
