• We recently visited the Trotting Mare in hope of a nice easy lunch and were thoroughly disappointed. When arriving we were shown promptly to our seats and immediately asked what drink we would like, however didn't receive any menus until prompted by our party. When receiving our drinks, we were upset to find that the lemonade and coke had been poured from large bottles, that hadn't even been refrigerated so were warm and flat! A large space of time then ensued before our orders were taken, this was not aided by staffs constant disappearance. Although accepting that food preparation does take time, the wait for our order seemed ridiculous, and when food arrived, we found our meals weren't even correct. Staff had failed to mention that some of the ingredients weren't available and we were only informed when questioning it's whereabouts in our food. The food itself was OK and despite being quite a small menu it had a nice selection of sandwiches, light bites and a few mains. The entirety of the meal however was let down by the lack of professionalism. Despite only having one other table dining at the same time as our visit, the waiting time for everything was long, and the organisation of the whole business seemed flawed with lack of communication between the kitchen, front of house staff and thereby the customer. Poor to average experience.
