• I don't know why anyone should be surprised that Tesco profits are diminishing. The shop is like a social club for the benefit of the staff rather than for the purpose of serving customers. Today I was there and staff stood around chatting and looking at photos on their mobile phones. I asked a pleasant lady where the shampoo was and she continuing to stock a nearby shelf directed me to the wrong aisle. Everyday for about the last month I have been stressed on entering the store because yet another charity was collecting and this in addition the foodbank collection. I am not by any means a mean person and I feel embarrassed by having to refuse to give - many of your shoppers feel like this - if you don't believe me just ask them. Seriously it puts you off going to the store - shopping should be enjoyable! Finally. I waited for what seemed ages today until an assistant came to answer a call from the cashier to get a barcode for a pack of frozen sausage rolls. Eventually an assistant arrived - why in the name of commonsense do you not use youngsters to do this job - on the whole they are quicker, brighter and less inclined to chat to their neighbour on the way. Also why is it not possible for the cashier to look up barcodes from their till rather to ring for slow assistance.
