  • 1 star reviewAs a local, i have visited this pub on many occasions, mostly before the current owners took over sadly. There is absolutely no atmosphere at this pub and the staff are rude and unfriendly (especially the owner), she barely cracks a smile, and normally completely ignores you when you walk in, although its a pub your not allowed to stand at the bar and have a drink, in fact they have removed all the bar stools now to prevent you from doing this, your only welcome here if you book a table and sit down and eat, so no popping in for a couple of drinks if you fancy it, in fact i have actually seen the owner turn a family away because they had not booked a table, fair enough if your a restaurant, but they only wanted a drink, and this is soppose to be a pub. The last straw for me was when i took my parents in for a drink last year, the pub was busy, and we were asked if we had booked a table, when i replied no, i was told that we would have to take our drinks and sit i the garden, we wouldnt of minded had it been the summer, but it was March and freezing, we were told after we had bought our drinks, or we would of walked straight out, therefore we took our drinks, sat outside on the bench and quickly finished them, i have not been back since and dont intend to unless the place gets new owners. Speaking to other locals, it seems that they treat a lot of their customers this way, and quite a few people have stopped drinking here, if you want a few drinks surrounded by warm friendly staff, do not go to The Royal Oak in Stambridge.

  • 5 star reviewI'm not sure what the previous comment is about! The Royal Oak serves great food, is very friendly and the service is great. It is often very busy so on some occassions there has been a slight delay, but it is well worth the wait. You can tell the food is home cooked and prepared to order, it is generous in portion size and great value. i would not hesitate in recommending this pub to anyone looking for a great meal for any occasion. Ii would also say to book a table in advance if you can as at weekends it is packed! In my view its about time a local pub gave the big chains a run for there money. keep up the good work

  • 1 star reviewAfter taking my in-laws to this pub after seeing a voucher in the local paper, I left feeling irritated buy the unhelpful rude staff. The starters were excellent, I have no complaints there. But the vegetables for the main meal came ten minutes after being plated up and I had to ask for them twice. When they did arrive we had either eaten our mains or they were slightly cold and the vegetables were Raw. When I advised the waitress she just shrugged her shoulders and walked off.We then had trouble asking for desserts as the waitress was either in conversation with one of the male patrons or talking on her mobile phone. When it came to paying the bill, I had a two for one main meal voucher. We had six main meals and only one was by one get one free, which is not stated on the voucher. The advert stated on voucher per table which would suggest each couple receives the offer... this is not the case. This is the second time I have had bad service in this pub in the last six months.... and I am a local.
