  • 5 star reviewI had the absolute pleasure of staying here just this past weekend.the room was very good.on-suite and with both a shower and a toilet.the room was lovely and warm and the bed very good.the sheets and bedding was first class.the staff, including and not only, the landlady Gail, were both extremely charming but very sincere in their treatment of me and their willingness to be helpful.on sunday they do a carvery lunch.they had a full roast of beef.gammon and lamb.with beautiful veg including the most wonderful roasted and honey glazed parsnips.the meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked.i have been a professional chef for 23 years who has 3 city and guild qualifications,i have worked with some of the worlds greatest chefs and,i cannot praise enough the wonderful lady who is chef here.the roast was so good I took it home with me,the manager and the chef could have done no more.they gave me a plate and wrapped my roast meal up with quality kitchen foil.i took it home with me on the trai to Edinburgh,i sat the bag on my lap that warmed me.i got home, settld and enjoyed tremendously my dinner.350 miles I carried this excellent meal with me.everything about my visit was great.i would like to stop my review now, and, just especially thank Gail, the landlady.Gail you are a beautiful and totally charming, you are a fantastic landlady and woman.i am thankful I got to spend some great time with you.all the staff here were more than corteous, they were genuinely very good to all the customers.i would also just like to say.i met a wonderful elderly and, very well dressed suited elderly gentlema at the bar.this wonderful man is a real regular, who has drank in therose and crown for many years.after introducing himself to me we got on very well.he told me of a time when the villagers would go round the pubs,of which my elderly friend told me,there were once 26 pubs in baldock.he recalled with great humour and a vivid account of such a time.this tuly wonderful and true gentleman is what makes our pubs great and Gayle makes these pubs greater,in this case THE ROSE AND CROWN HOTEL.there may have been 26 pubs in my friends day,but I bet you there were none finer than the rose and crown.why?because I have been there, and taken there to a past time.with my elderly friends vivid and marvellous account of what the hotel was like back then.i highly recommend the rose and crown, wether to just have a drink.or wether one is looking to stay here.and wether one fancies the roast sunday.any choice you make you will be glad you did,i am,
