  • 1 star reviewWent there, being within walking distance, on a Sunday afternoon early December to have something to eat as it was my birthday and didn't want to cook, only to be told there was no chef so therefore no food available! The following Sunday I was walking my dog past this pub at the same time as when I had hoped to get a meal and there were people dining in the restaurant bit, so it's obviously pot luck if there is a chef working or not. Don't like the way you have to walk through the haze of fag smoke to get through the front door either!!

  • 4 star reviewExcellent pub now that there are new landlords and has had a major refurbish. I have eaten there three times now and found the food excellent and at reasonable prices. Saturday nights are packed with both drinkers and diners and there is a great atmosphere.

  • 3 star reviewWent to the rising sun last Sunday. I wasn't sure what to expect as i heard the old Rising sun was a bit ropey! 'So near and yet so far' sums up this pub. The decor is really good and the owner has obviously spent some time and money refurbishing it. But that said there was nothing obvious advertising that. If it was me I would have signs up everywhere outside  advertising 'recently re-opened' 'refurbushed' etc etc ... From the road it wouldn't be immediately obvious. Im not sure what if anything has been done to advertise the reopening. The reason I say this was because the place was practically empty ... Not even close to double figures ... On a Sunday afternoon! So obviously there was no atmosphere.   Being a Sunday I was surprised to see there was not a roast option on the menu. With the nearby Eastleigh Toby carvery I guess they didn't want to even try to take them on which was understandable but a shame non the less. No unique selling point in terms of the menu at all ... All standard/ predictable  pub fair although admittedly it wasn't bad, and came out quickly (as it should in an empty pub). But i'm not sure 'not bad' will cut it with the dog & crook, the queens head and fishers pond all nearby (and all much better!) All in all there is nothing wrong with the pub really. It looks great (they have gone for an upmarket and reasonably contemporary look) good selection of drinks, reasonably priced, good music (not too loud either), and foods ok ...service wasn't too bad either (despite what other people have said). But lots of little things (attention to detail stuff) stop it from being great. On that note; The menu looks cheap The menu has a website link ... which doesn't work The carpark seems to have been marked out so as to create the fewest possible spaces with lots of dead space in each corner? I hope it picks up and thrives because it really isn't bad and it's early days Went to the rising sun last Sunday. I wasn't sure what to expect as i heard the old Rising sun was a bit ropey! • 1 star reviewI went to Rising Sun last Tues for lunch with a friend, waited 10mins at the bar to be served and there were only 3 men at the bar who appeared to already have drinks? finally got a table, the meal was fine but again had to wait ages for waitress to appear to get us 2 more glasses of wine, it finally came but we then waited about another hour to order coffee??? we even went looking for waitress but it was like the Marie Celeste!!! there was only another table of three in the restaurant so there really was no excuse. The final straw was when a child ( I think she belonged to a member of staff) was allowed to play around the restaurant with the furniture!! not something I want when I am dining. It was a great shame as the food was lovely, the decor is stunning but it was all let down by the service!!!

  • 1 star reviewWe pre-booked a company 'Do' at lunchtime a table for eight - on arrival no table set - only four other people in pub before our party - ordered from the basic menu - drinks and dipping oil and bread after 20 minutes - no mains still after waiting an hour and half on arrival - had to leave - sad situation excellent decor terrible service - unfortunately unable to edit the star rating!!
