Stayed for 1 night with the family (2 adults & 2 kids - 6&2). Made to feel welcome. The room was good, clean and comfortable. As for the food, it was superb, its not often my husband is beaten by a mixed grill but this one finished him off, the food was great and breakfast was top quality. Would go back again.

Cannot believe some of the previous reviews. Visited Thursday this week and the restaurant was full which is in itself testimony to the quality of the food. My husband had the 16oz T-bone steak and I had the 12oz rib eye, both medium rare both juicy and tasty and both cooked to perfection. Home made chips(obviously not frozen) and salad, peas, tomato and coleslaw complimented the steak. Various sauces were available at extra cost. All in all a superb meal and good value---can't wait to visit the Admiral again.

Shocking !!
I have just been to the red admiral's advertised "steak night".
Myself and my partner ordered rare steaks. Both arrived more than well done. This we could live with, but the steaks were swimming in some form of brown liquid and were so covered in salt that they were totally inedible.
The steaks were accompanied by burnt frozen chips, salad that had turned brown, soggy frozen onion rings and soggy mushrooms. The entire meal was unappealing and inedible.
Had we not had a youngster with us who was enjoying the kids lasagne, we would have walked straight out. On the plus side, he said the kids lasagne was good !
In fairness, after complaining we were told there would be no charge for the whole meal, but by this point, our evening and appetite was ruined.
The barman said "we have had trouble with rare steaks so we cook them a bit more". I take from this that the meat is overcooked, coloured with this brown liquid and coated in salt to attempt to hide the fact that the meat is actually off.
I will certainly never step foot back into the red admiral and strongly advise others to do the same.
Sadly this site will not let me give a zero rating, that is the only reason for the one star I have given it.

Have just been to the red admiral for the 1St time in a couple of years, we were shocked at how unappealing it has become. the food was very good however the bar and dinning room was shabby, and didn't look very clean, there was wires from the speakers draped around the walls, the carpet didn't look like it had seen a vacuum cleaner and the toilets were horrid. There was toilet cleaner all over the seats and the floor was wet with no wet floor signs out.
We couldn't fault the food though it was lovely.
This hotel is in desperate need of some love and attention, I used to go as a child when it was the Boonwood and then it had character and felt homely, now it has no ambience, it is so sad to see somewhere like that deteriorate. The owners please take notice and spend some money on the place, and get a cleaner! This place could be such a draw and should be bursting at the seams, instead of having no customers as it would appear to have had today.

I never miss avisit to the Red admiral when in the area. The quality of the steaks is excellent and very good value. The 16ounce T-Bone steak only
£14-95.
The combo of any 2 meats from a good selection for £11-95(i.e.6ounce rib eye and 8ounce gammon)is particularily good value.

This Hotel and Pub is on its way out. Last Saturday evening myself and 3 friends called for an evening meal. There were 2 people in the bar and only 2 more families having a meal. In addition when we went to our table there was dog poo on tne carpet in the dining room !! The owner quickly removed it and we should have left at that point but stayed and had our meal. The meal was not bad but the room had obviously not been cleaned and was very drab. When we paid our bill he kindly knocked 40p off !!! This is definitely one to miss. NO STARS
