  • 3 star reviewI have eaten at the Otter a few times when I have met an old friend for lunch. It is what you expect, a basic set meal at a reasonable price if you can use the 2 for one offer. It is on a par with similar places. décor is good, toilets clean and service good. Nothing to really complain about.

  • 1 star reviewOk..having experienced a completely awful experience at the bumblebee on my birthday last November, bad food, service and then going to pay not accepting a fifty pound note (nothing wrong with it) I swore we wouldnt go back. However the otter , slightly further away, but same chain of pub, went there last weekend.. I had the steak, always a bit dubious in terms of how you order your steak and how it comes to the table... It tasted awful. I didn't t complain cos when I was in the bumblebee we ended up with such bad service I decided against it. All the food was over cooked..the waitress wanted to take the plates away before we had finished, so when we had finished she took no notice of us. We wanted dessert, but beng ignored for a few minutes put us off. We didn't bother. On paying I had to go t the counter and when eventually I paid the bill the waitress did not make eye contact with me. Sorry Marstons..won't be going there again. You have had all my custom and no more..you are rubbish. Food rubbish, service rubbish and the table and floor area was filth..NO MORE

  • 4 star reviewSome of the reviews shown below are unnecessarily harsh and the comments about the premises being dirty are wholly untrue. The 2for1 represents value for money. Some of the staff could be friendlier and their is a definite need for some training in customer care. Having said that, I will continue to eat there regularly for the foreseeable future.

  • 5 star reviewi completely disagree with the people who moaned about the food and service i have been to the otter on several occasions as part of a party of eight and on no occasion could either of us find any fault whatsoever the food was excellent and the service likewise and may i say the ladies toilets were a credit to whoever cleans them and according to the males in the group so were the gents i wouldnt on our experience of the otter hesitate to recommend it to anyone will be definately going there again.

  • 1 star reviewThe last time I visited the Otter was about a year ago. My friends and I (who were all 20/21 years old at the time)ordered our food and after we had finished eating a waitress approached and said that if we were to visit the restaurant again, we would need to show our IDs. People from other tables stared at us as it looked as if we were getting told off ! We all happily offered to produce our IDs and the waitress didn't even inspect them but just walked away. Not only had we finished eating our food but we hadn't even ordered any alcohol, we wasn't being loud or annoying to other customers. Really weird place. Never going again.

  • 1 star reviewHad Christmas dinner there last year, paid £35 per head. It was dreadful all microwaved from frozen, nothing was fresh, worst food around, a total con, DO NOT go there for a special ocasion like Christmas because you will be mightily dissapointed!

  • 3 star reviewOverall a cheap pub with good menu. Been there many times and although waitresses not always great if you get the 2 for 1 the food is good. Steak not always cooked how you ask for it but still good value

  • 1 star reviewThe food is dreadful. Chef must be blind, or just doesnt care... Or both! Appalling. No quality control, even when you complain and ask for a replacement dish, which arrives just as bad. And if you've heard of the saying 'service with a smile' you're already more clued up than the majoriyy of the service staff here. A disgrace, and not exactly cheap either. Never going back. Owners and management should be ashamed, but from my experience today (and the other reviews on here) i get the feeling they couldn't care less.

  • 1 star reviewI have been to the Otter about six times and its generally been good, the meals well presented, friendly staff and clean and tidy looking. However I went there today with my baby and first off struggled to drag a highchair to my table while staff walked past me. Then a stranger held my baby while I scooped out soggy food and crisps out from the highchair which had old food embedded in the fabric staps. The stranger who held my child also had a baby in a high chair and said they had done the same with their highchair before they could put their baby into it. I was then served a coffee with grease floating on the top of it and sent it back and I asked if i could have a childrens meal from the menu except a smaller portion of it, but that was too much trouble for them so I had the normal portion and sat there scooping out what I needed for my child. A lady on the table next to me sent her meal back saying the meat was like rubber. Then I was served my meal and it was cold. At this point I didnt have it in me to complain anymore. I then sat for 20 mins after finishing the meal with my dirty plates still in front of me and no offer from the waitress for dessert or anything else for that matter. while paying 17.50 for this unpleasing experience I did tell the staff member about the highchair being filthy and that I seen the waitress taking away the highchair used by the women next to me, not cleaning it and replacing it in its docking area. He said sorry about that under his breath and was generally ignorant. I daresay that despite my other experiences at the Otter being ok, today was so bad that I wont be going back again too soon.
