• In reply to Janis's review, I work for telephone banking with LTSB, we cannot confirm if a sort code is for any bank as we do not have the facility to do so. You should be sure the sort code and account number the recipient has given you is correct - its not up to us to tell you if it's right we merely act as the middle man to make the actual transfer.

• Went to Canary Wharf Branch to try and transfer funds from my account to another account. Did not want to make the transfer by telephone, as the previous time I did so, I had to keep prompting the person at the other end to confirm the details she had taken down from me. She was unable to confirm that the sort code I had given was in fact for Santander, which I found quite astonishing, so all in all I was not at all comfortable with the level of care taken to ensure that all the details were accurate. I suppose calls are recorded, but I do not want all that hassle if funds go to the wrong account. However, I was told that to arrange the same transfer via my branch would cost me £30. Not impressed although I was advised to go direct to Santander and pay in a cheque there. Needless to say I could not find the place.
