• Ah Leys - where to start? From the broken sign outside to the messy reception room with empty cardboard boxes and stacked random chairs we should have known what awaited us. Staff seemed pretty uninterested in us staying; gruffly shouting through from the bar when we tried to check in. We weren't shown our rooms, nor told about any facilities of the hotel. I had to ask for wifi instructions, breakfast and times. The hotel website states that it's been family run since 1930 and, from the dilapidated state of the fixtures, fittings and decor, it's possibly not been touched since then either. Broken chairs in the dining room, broken lamps in the lounge, holes in the walls & a general lack of decent upkeep. My room was small, smelled faintly of dog and incredibly dated. I'd be shocked if any work had been carried out since 1985 save a coat of paint. The carpet in the 70s en suite smelled like it needed replacing. The bed was uncomfortable and the single pillow thin. I must have been over the kitchen too as the noise at 6 am woke me up. I have to admit that we were not brave enough to sample the evening menu as it looks as appetising as a reheated airplane meal. We did, however, sample a reheated breakfast in the morning which was served with all of the politeness and grace of Phil Mitchell at the Queen Vic. Had this stay not been paid up front by my employer, I'd have left as soon as was possible. Avoid at all costs. I'd rate this as zero if I could.

• Excellent place to stay. Staff very friendly, co-operative and efficient. Food first class, and good value for money. Adequate parking facilities. Would thoroughly reccommend this hotel.
