• Having recently moved into the area and decided to go on a green juice fast, Kesley's I assumed would be ideal: local farm fresh veg. I read on their webpage that friendly professional staff were on hand, so off I went, with my massive list! I had big plans!! To my dismay, the service I received was remarkable. Dismay/remarkable? Let me explain, I entered the shop & proceeded to fill my basket, I took a while doing so. When I first arrived, a staff member was pottering, drinking tea. Having asked her a question, she literally disappeared into the 'back room' were there were two other staff members also drinking tea. They fell silent & watched me. With my arm falling off, the basket heaving with veg. I made my way to the till. None of the staff made any movement, so I watched them. It was like they were semi glued to the floor. Eventually, one of them relents & 'drags' herself to the till. This is in complete contrast to the "friendly" staff/service I was anticipating. She was a brunette, it was totally remarkable to me how she managed to avoid eye contact with me from the back room all the way to the till. She literally held her head down towards the floor as if gold lay there. I found it quite funny. She took her position at the till, but did not greet me. Heaving baskets usually invite opening banter..? I spent a fair sum on savoy cabbage, ginger, fennel, bramleys (nice juice combo btw). So why would the staff be the opposite to what they advertised? What could possibly make three 'non-busy' staff members freeze, even with the promise of a good sale? This, alas, is not the ending of a Clouseau novel, merely a supposition into the reasoning that had 3 people completley forget what was written on the website and art of good customer service. A happy customer returns, with family, possibly friends.. It is at this point I will mention that I am a black woman, in my forties, and I do understand the values inherent within each culture. Money it seems will erase those values for a moment. For as unwelcome as I was made to feel at Kesleys last thursday, the member of staff took my cash with gusto. I do not seek sympathy, merely to highlight. I will shop elsewhere until I find a farm shop, that offers good service, as standard, to all.
