I'm a self-employed contractor and I was looking for an IFA to manage my pension. Before giving them this, I gave them an ISA, and signed up to them for the silver account with £100 per month management fees. It all went fairly well to start with, they expect you to go and visit them every 3 months, which can be a bit of a pain, for £100 per month they could come to you. They signed me up to the Standard Life Wrap. It went fairly well until there was a bad couple of months in the markets, to which I was greeted at my next review with the words, "well the good news is you only lost 20%, others lost way more". I am sorry, WTF, that is not good news. Secondly what am I paying you £100 p/m for? I can lose 20% on my own, without spunking £100 p/m. Well that did it for me and so I told them I would like to leave, only to be told, "sorry, you've rolled over and signed up for a second year, you have another 8 months to pay." I didn't realise this was a gym membership. Those two things should tell you all you need to know.Rating history and distribution
