• There's a reason I go to Hertz - I expect to get good service and good value. Sadly the Basingstoke branch holds my personal record for worst car hire service ever. I booked a 24 day rental which was supposed to start today. My booking was made 9 days ago, after a slightly painful period where the branch did not return my calls or answer the email I sent. However, I did at least expect my car to be there when I turned up to collect it. That is a pretty standard target for a hire car company right? Sadly my car wasn't there. I was told it had been 'blocked' for a service. Nobody appeared to want to accept responsibility - the lady on the front desk was nice but the guy in there with her was very offhand and just shrugged saying they were a small office and couldn't do much about it if the service techs called in the car. No answer to why Hertz's systems don't join this all up. Another car please? Nope - "we're very busy today". I was left with the impression I was putting them out! Nearly four hours later I still have no car and have had to scrap my late PM appointments which had taken me a couple of weeks to set up. While they have said they will waive today's hire fee (damn right) and will deliver the car to my home, they seemed to feel this was adequate compensation. I am not going anywhere near this utterly unprofessional set up ever again and I encourage others to seek alternative Hertz offices or even one of the other hire companies. None would have to 'try harder' to do better than the shoddy treatment I received today.
