  • 5 star reviewWell done to the current occupiers and their staff for moving this pub forward! For too long it had been seen as rather drab and uninspiring. I'm sure that the recent renovations and the emphasis on maintaining cleanliness throughout the premises will be appreciated by many people. A large group of us turned up for a Christmas meal. The food and service was excellent. My partner was very content because, untypically, her special dietry requirements were catered for. To be fair this does take a bit of effort because in addition to being vegetarian and coeliac, she has other dietry restrictions. We also had a great night on New Years Eve. The talented band 'The Black Rat Effect' were playing and a generous buffet was provided at minimal cost. There is also a good selection of ales and the staff (another vitally important aspect) are competent and friendly. P.S. Look out for the occasional band!

  • 5 star reviewWe decided to try Sunday lunch as we had had an evening meal their under the previous management. We received a warm and friendly welcome on arrival and had a caht with the manager and some of the other customers. It seems that it is drawing in cutsomers from a wide area, as they were with the S. Midlands MX5 Owners Club. The restaurant was busy but there seemed to be no rush to sit you down and you were allowed to stay in the bar area until you were ready. The choice of Beef, Chicken and Lamb means that the chef can concentrate on the quality of the food, rather than a wider menu. However I understand that they can adapt for those who want something different. You can have 2 courses for £8.95 and are able to choose a main and either a starter or dessert. We went for he latter and were very impressed with the food. I had the beef and it was cooked exactly as I like it, not too well cooked but not rare. My wife had chicken and was pleased with how tender it was. My only complaint is that there were insufficient potatoes and the carrots were a little under cooked for my taste but this did not spoil the meal. I could have asked for more potatoes. For dessert we had the Strawberry Jam Pudding and the Gateaux. They were of an ideal portion size as we came away feeling full but not umcomfortably so. We will be returning for another meal very soon.

  • 1 star reviewwaited 45 mins for two baguettes and then the order was wrong! salad put on warm plates so looked very sad when it got to table, definately not value for money. Having said that the cooked meals of other diners looked good and the desserts in the fridge looked stunning. But the bar snacks were a disappointment
