• February 2014 Most disappointing and very slow service.My friend waited 20 mins before being told there was no soup...forgotten to take it off the board. I ordered Whitebait which was not very crisp and there were so many big fish that I felt sickened. The main meal arrived after 1hr 10mins. My lime and soda was well finished by the time the meal arrived. My friend had ordered pasta (which when it eventually arrived was very mediochre and she was starving by then, having only had a cup of tea) and I had ordered Fish and Chips . YUK ! The chips were soggy inside, the fish batter dripped oil in the bowl. It was inedible. I asked if they had been left soaking in water. "Oh Yes we leave them for 24 hrs to improve the texture and flavour"! That accounted for the texture and lack of taste. A guy came and crouched down at our table and said "Sorry about the soup.We forgot to take it off the board". I complained that we had been there for an hour and a half and he argued with me that we hadn't . I objected and he told us that there would be no charge! A waitress appeared and offered us a complimentary desert. We thanked her but declined as we were put right off by then. After another 15mins or so, a waiter came to the table and told us that the manager said that we would have to pay for our drinks. I argued that he said "No Charge" He went away and came back 4 times. I stated that as we had declined the offer of complimentary deserts which far out weighed a cup of tea and a soda water,and that it was petty and unacceptable. He wentaway and returned stating that the guy was adament that we pay so I said "Fine we will take up his offer for the desert".He went away again and on his return said "That offer is off and was only if you ordered it at the same time as you got the meal"! I demanded to speak personally, to the owner, instead of the childish game that the manager was playing. Again, he returned stating that we could not leave without paying! SO humiliating! I counted the 2.75p in small change and asked to speak to the owner. I was told that the guy who came to our table with the offer WAS the owner. I was given a business card but whether it him or not I never found out. The whole episode took over 2hrs and what had we experienced?. Appallingly rude service and inadequate food if you ask me. A night out ruined....especially as we had both been working for the previous 12 hours. NEVER AGAIN !
