  • 5 star reviewThis is without doubt now the best pub in Watton and surrounding areas, It has recently been re-furbished and is now a very clean tidy pub, the locals are very friendly and the managers Alan & Sue make everyone welcome. There is also a superb 60 70's Disco on every Saturday night with DJ Kev who plays some really fantastic golden oldies plus excellent Motown tracks all in all the place now to be without a doubt.

  • 1 star review The Crown Hotel 25 High St, Watton, Norfolk IP25 6AB Public - in the last week Quality Poor Facilities Poor FairService Poor On arrival I had too call the landlady from bar, there was a side entrance too the hotel with a piece of "wood" as a reception desk, then another door which led directly through too the bar. My first impressions of this so called 3* hotel was a complete wash out.The outside decor reeked "local cheap boozer" certainally no place too stay with small children. The landlady looked quite frail, and very ill she didnt really ooze charm or seem enthrilled to have guests. We was taken to our room, where my horrors became a reality, as the door opened i was met by a disgusting Yellow carpet which had stains all over it, there was wine, beer, takeaway stains and god knows only what else, i was disgusted. The room smelt of damp and a stale odour with bed linen that dated back to the 1970's.The wall paint was going a murky yellow colour with stains on the wall, which looked like takeaway grease from someones hands. The bathroom was small with the toilet having stale blue bleach which had been left too stick and not washed properly.the shower cubicle had mould in corners which had turned black, and the shower tray was dirty with dark hair in plughole, (clearly NOT CLEANED). The bedside cabinet boasted an OLD dogbone which sat in the top draw, what are these people thinking? this is being advertised as a 3* star hotel in Watton, it was EVERYTHING BUT a 3* it wouldnt even pass as a hotel, it was bleak and dirty. Our nights stay was to turn into an even worse reality. As the bar took toll with locals and youngsters the noise and language became worse, the room was far too hot, so to have a window open was a must, even though they were heavy sash windows. The people outside pub were noisy disruptive, with noisy cars revving engines and people yelling and being sick in road was just the start. The karaoke was on a friday night, and the noise and vibration shook the room, even though the landlady had explained she held karaoke on a friday, the noise shouldnt be too disturbing NOT THE CASE AT ALL. we did NOT SLEEP at this hotel, we did not rest, we did NOT relax, it was jus plain awlful. The following morning we had a cooked breakfast booked, a man appeared with makeshift chefs white jacket on, but clearly did NOT look the part with a untamed beard and just didnt seem too know what he was doing, or how too greet guests. We wasnt even told what was on the breakfast we jus had to ask, when he explained we told him what we wanted/didnt want on our plates. The coffee and tea arrived which was disgusting, instant coffee no cream sugar etc, and the Tea cups smelt of bio/mould from smelly washing up area that had stayed stagnant for some time. we asked the cups be washed due to the smell being awlful. The breakfast arrived which had taken a good half hour, even the tea & coffee we waited for a good 15, they clearly had NO idea on how to look after & cater for guests. The breakfast arrived and it was luke warm, the bacon was near cold, the sausages had been deep fried mushrooms cold beans tomatoes all cold. The toast accompanied the breakfast 10 mins after being served our meals. The breakfast was NOT worthy of £4.50pp it was a washout, no one came in and asked if all was ok, we was just left to our own devices, in a small back room which stank of beer/wine/bio, with a landlady going around with a mop & bucket probably clearing up last nights sick from loo's. This hotel, is very large, they clearly have NO STAFF and really are a 1man band. The hotel rooms are dated, lack vibrance, lack cleanliness and lack the word HOTEL being used. This destination needs too be avoided at all costs, they should NOT be allowed too operate a hotel in this state. The whole place needs money, love and someone with the right idea about hospitality. I felt dirty and couldnt believe id survived a night at this hell hole. DO NOT run a hotel if you have no experience, shut down the rooms ASAP, and just run a cheap boozer, for that is exactly what this place is "spit & sawdust" boozer.
