• I purchased a Raleigh Oakland bike from their website since it was one of the cheapest prices I could find. Very quick delivery - arrived within two days and very pleased with the bike at first. However, I took the bike to be set up properly at my local bike shop and was told that the sealed bottom bracket (pedal crank) had been cross-threaded when the bike was constructed and the bearings were damaged. This meant that I had to pay for a replacement part. In addition, the bike came with a different (budget) seat compared to the one specified on their website even though I telephoned The Bike Shop prior to placing my order and they confirmed that the spec was as per their website. I have emailed The Bike Shop twice in the past week concerning these two issues and have not received a reply. The usual rule seems to apply: when we've had your cash we don't give a damn! I intend contacting Raleigh about The Bike Shop's failure to rectify these issues and their poor customer service, since clearly this reflects badly on Raleigh as well. If , as it appears, The Bike Shop is unwilling to rectify these problems then it will be dealt with by my credit card company under the terms of the credit card guarantee scheme. If the measure of a good business is how it responds to customers' problems then The Bike Shop has clearly failed badly in this case.
